WORK WITH LUKE
Talks, demos, writing and creative fire cooking collaborations
Luke Vandore-Mackay is a chef, food writer, and fire cooking specialist with over 20 years’ experience. As founder of High Grange, he teaches at the award-winning Fire School, creates recipes for top outdoor cooking brands, and appears regularly at events, festivals and in the media.
Luke’s passion is helping people understand the full potential of cooking with fire – whether that’s through demos, workshops, editorial, or product development. He’s as comfortable leading a team day or training session as he is cooking on camera or writing for a national publication.

“Relax and enjoy the informative and humorous demonstrations from expert chef Luke… before the climax of a bountiful feast.”
– Devon Tourism Awards Judge, 2023

Demos, talks and teaching
Clear, practical, experienced – and never boring
Luke is a regular at food festivals and events, known for his engaging demos and clear, down-to-earth style. He’s taught at the Borough Market Demo Kitchen, led training for Kamado Joe and Big Green Egg, and tutored chefs at the UK Barbecue School.
He also offers private workshops and can be booked to teach outdoor cooking skills at your venue or event.
“High Grange is so beautiful and provides so many options for photos – that’s why I’ve chosen it twice! Luke’s a brilliant chef and HG is really well equipped – he was really helpful with the food prep.”
–James Whetlor, author

Photoshoots and brand content
A standout setting, a trusted chef, and exceptional food
High Grange is frequently used as a location for brand photography, product launches and content creation. Luke has cooked for shoots with Kamado Joe, Vulcanus, & Sons Clothing and others, producing high-quality images with real food, fire and impact.
The space includes an outdoor kitchen, woodland bar, fire pits and oak dining table – all ready for use in film and photography. We also host cookbook shoots and media visits.

Writing and editorial
From recipes to opinion columns, always rooted in the real world
Luke has written a regular column for Devon Life and has contributed to BBQ Magazine, The Guardian, and other publications. His writing is honest, practical, and informed by years of professional experience – with a clear voice and plenty of humour.
“Like anything, it takes skill to get it right – but adding ‘burnt’ to your outdoor cooking repertoire will take you to the next level.”
— From Burnt, Luke’s Devon Life column
He’s available for editorial commissions, recipe development and brand storytelling projects.
